On today’s show, we’re back one final time with Micaela and Dawn Marie Hoo, the mother-daughter team behind the skincare line Drifter Organics.

Last week, Micaela and Dawn Marie shared how they funded the launch of their brand and were incredibly generous in sharing the resources and tactics they found useful as they navigated their crowdfunding campaign. And after all of that, I was super curious to know what might be next for these two.

Today, we talk about their plans for Drifter Organics moving forward, why wholesale has become a pretty attractive option for them, how Micaela plans to juggle all of her passions and career goals, and some really solid advice for anyone out there who wants to start something from scratch.

Enjoy!

CYOP #34 - Filmmaking + Teamwork with Ric + Jen Serena from Serena Creative + The Muir Project

Today's show brings me to the Burbank studio of Ric and Jen Serena. While I was in Los Angeles last month, I had the chance to catch up with the two who, together with their collaborators, are still riding the wave of success that came with their beautiful documentary, Mile... Mile and a Half. In the episode, we chat about their own winding career paths, how they coped when The Muir Project and Mile... Mile and a Half took over their world for a few years, their strategies for working together as a husband and wife team and why Burbank is the perfect creative hub for their work/life blend...

CYOP #15 - Learning by Doing + Finding the Time with Photographer Kat Alves

Kat Alves // Interiors and Architectural Photographer

Kat Alves // Interiors and Architectural Photographer

I didn't know Kat Alves personally before we sat down for an interview, but when I started to dive into her work, I realized it looked very familiar. As an architectural and interiors photographer, Kat's work can be seen just about anywhere in the Sacramento region—and beyond.

She's not only incredibly talented, but she's also very candid about how her career has changed and grown over the years. The interview is on the shorter side, but I promise it's an interesting sneak peek into her day-to-day life as a busy photographer. Happy listening!

Wowza. It's May.

Here in Sacramento, our outdoor concerts are starting, farmer's markets are bustling and the temperatures are reaching for the sky. I'm not sure if I'm ready for the heat of another Sacramento summer, but hey... we can always head to the coast to cool off, right?

This photo is from a camping trip we took last year. As we meandered along Highway 1 on our way home, we couldn't resist stopping to capture one more shot of the blue-green wonder that is the Pacific.

I'm so glad we did.

I hope you all enjoy the wallpaper and have a lovely start to May!

p.s. Are you remembering to breathe? I'm sure trying.

CYOP #5 - Prioritizing Self Care + the Importance of Travel with Photographer Sarah Dawson

I am very excited to welcome Sarah Dawson to the Creating Your Own Path podcast today. A professional photographer who has been splitting her time between San Francisco, New York and Paris, Sarah has landed some pretty fantastic opportunities along the way and was kind enough to share how some of her international projects came about.

She was full of great advice during the interview, but my favorite quote comes in around 14:10 when chatting about her best advice for those looking to get into a creative field: "I think the most important thing is to ask yourself, 'What is your passion,' because any path you start on is going to have a lot of challenges and setbacks [...] At the end of the day, every part of it is worth it if you love what you do."

So true.

As you can imagine, I left the interview completely inspired. Happy listening, my friends!
