Photo Essay: Springtime in Seattle

Springtime in Seattle, WA

I'd by lying if I told you everything went smoothly on my latest CYOP Road Trip to the Pacific Northwest. Seattle, in particular, was tough. A lot of the people I initially reached out to never got back to me, some interviewees had to cancel at the last minute and others came through just in the nick of time (which means I scrambled a bit to do research, draft questions and coordinate the interviews).

However, I ended up chatting with a handful of super inspiring people and—lucky for me—the city put. on. a. show. I couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather while I was there and exploring the city with family and friends (when I wasn't schlepping microphones all over town) was perfection.

I mean, look at this place:

Stunning, right?

I know Seattle tends to be a seen as a gloomy, rain-drenched place, but I definitely soaked up the sunny days while I was in town. Special thanks to Amanda, my aunt and all of the interviewees who made this trip possible!

CYOP #37 - Keeping Your Day Job + Staying Focused with Adina and Zeke Pease of RambleGood + Dog on a Boat Studios

Episode 37 - Creating Your Own Path with Adina and Zeke Pease of RambleGood + Dog on a Boat Studios // creatingyourownpath.com

Today's show brings me to the live/work space of Adina and Zeke Pease of RambleGood and Dog on a Boat Studios. The Seattle-based creatives work in various mediums like photography, videography, written content and, most recently, hand-made goods. Their journey to get to this point has been anything but a straight line and I think that's what I find most inspiring!

In the interview, they go into detail about how they came to terms with keeping their day jobs and studies on track while maintaining fulfilling creative side hustles. We also chat about why they finally feel as though all of their creative passions are coming together through their current projects and why changing the world plays a role in just about everything they do.

Enjoy!

Photo Essay: Seattle's Museum of Flight

Photo Essay: Seattle's Museum of Flight

Sometimes it's fun to be a bit nerdy. Don't you think? My husband suggested the Museum of Flight when we were deciding to what to see in Seattle this summer and after quickly looking at the brochure I said, "Let's do it!"

It turned out to be such a great way to spend the morning. Here are a few photos I couldn't help snapping while playing tourist:

And yes, you can walk inside the old Air Force One and Concorde they have on-site. Pretty neat, right? I highly recommend going if you're at all interested in aviation history or if you simply marvel at our ability to step inside a metal tube and hurl ourselves through the sky. Honestly, the ingenuity of it all is what really interests me. We humans have come up with some incredible ideas and inventions over the years, but flight has to be the one of the most awe-inspiring.

Embracing Tourist Status in Seattle

Seattle, Washington

In the world of travel, we often see articles, books and guides urging us to stay away from "tourist traps" and toward the lesser-known attractions and activities. Yet, as we pondered how to spend one day in Seattle this summer, we made the choice to hit up some of the highlights.

Yes, we only had one day and we missed out on a lot of hole-in-the-wall spots, but I happen to think it's more fun to have fun than to worry about all of that. So, that's what we did!

Seattle, Washington

We opted to spend the morning at Seattle's Museum of Flight, which—though it sounds a bit nerdy—was actually pretty incredible. The museum offers a ton of information about the history of flight and you can even tour an Air Force One and Concorde, which are both located on museum grounds.

After we left the museum, we headed down to Pike Place Market where we shopped around for a bit. Talk about sensory overload! I've been there before, but I'm always amazed by how busy it seems to be—all day, every day.

We had planned to ride the Great Wheel, but decided against it since the day was pretty dreary. Luckily, the colors of the market kept us in good spirits!

After grabbing dinner in the city, we hopped back on the ferry to Kingston where we were staying. Though we'll probably explore the many other sides of Seattle during our next visit, playing tourist was the perfect way to spend the twelve hours we had available.

Tell me: what are your favorite Seattle spots? We'll add them to our list for next time!

Photo Essay: (Pacific) Northwest is Best

Photo Essay: (Pacific) Northwest is Best

Okay, so we also really love parts of the country not located in the Pacific Northwest, but I must admit: adventuring in and around western Washington for a few days last month was just what the doctor ordered.

Squint and you'll see a teeny tiny whale tale in the photo above. See if I leave my zoom lens at home ever again!

The first leg of our recent road trip took us farther north than we've ever traveled as a couple. We fell hard for the cooler weather, the water and the abundance of lush, green surroundings.

I'll be sharing more details of our adventures in the weeks to come, but for now, know this: We'll most definitely return to explore everything the area has to offer.
